Amish Hamburger Steak Bake Recipe That’s Pure Comfort Food

A hearty, one-pan dinner featuring juicy beef patties baked in a rich, creamy mushroom and onion gravy.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80/20)
  • 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, sliced into thin rings
  • 8 ounces cremini mushrooms, sliced
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently and shape into 6 oval patties.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Sear patties for 3-4 minutes per side until golden. Transfer to a plate.
  3. In the same skillet, cook onion and mushrooms over medium heat for 5-6 minutes. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Whisk in beef broth, then stir in condensed soup, sour cream, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Return patties to the skillet. Bake uncovered at 375°F for 25-30 minutes. Garnish with parsley and serve.

Notes

For a thicker gravy, add an extra tablespoon of flour. Serve over mashed potatoes or egg noodles.
