Decadent Hawaiian Guava Cake: A Slice of Paradise

A moist, tender cake infused with sweet-tart guava puree and topped with a glossy guava-lime glaze. This tropical dessert is perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup guava puree
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup guava jelly
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup guava puree (for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch pan.
  2. Whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
  4. Combine 1 cup guava puree and buttermilk.
  5. Add dry ingredients to butter mixture alternately with guava mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Pour batter into pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. For glaze: Melt guava jelly and water in a saucepan. Whisk with powdered sugar, 1/4 cup guava puree, and lime juice until smooth.
  9. Pour glaze over cooled cake. Let set before serving.

Notes

For a more intense guava flavor, add 1/2 teaspoon guava extract to the glaze. The cake can be stored at room temperature for up to 3 days.
