This easy fried cabbage with garlic butter is a savory, caramelized side dish ready in 20 minutes. Perfect with any protein, it’s a low-carb, flavor-packed favorite.
– 1 medium head green cabbage (about 2 lbs), cored and sliced into 1/2-inch strips
– 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
– 6 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more to taste
– 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
– 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
– 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add olive oil and 2 tbsp butter.
2. Add half the cabbage. Cook undisturbed for 2-3 minutes, then toss and cook for 5-6 minutes until softened and browned. Transfer to a bowl.
3. Add remaining 2 tbsp butter to the skillet. Add garlic, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Cook for 30-60 seconds until fragrant.
4. Return all cooked cabbage to the skillet. Toss to coat in the garlic butter and cook for 2-3 more minutes.
5. Remove from heat. Stir in fresh parsley, taste, and adjust salt if needed. Serve immediately.
For best results, do not overcrowd the pan. Cook in batches as directed to achieve proper caramelization. Add cooked bacon for a heartier version.
